Colored it, now you can actually see that the flower glows!! Actually I think I have a thing for glowy stuff, it's becoming a recurring theme

So here's Haine as a kid, sitting alone on a half submerged tree in the middle of his lake. Haine was orphaned and was alone most of the time, his only companions were other fae that occasionally passed through, though none lingered very much.
Now I know how I said that Haine's hair is opaque black, and that it doesn't reflect light at all, I haven't forgotten. So why is his hair all shiny and reflecting light all of a sudden? Lemme explain real fast:

Haine is what you'd call a half-breed, he is pretty unique even for a fae. His mother was a Water Sprite and his father was a Night Stallion (the counterpart to the much more common female of the species, the Mare) - is not actually a horse, they're shapeshifters.
Night Stallions and Mares are creatures of shadow, they can become one with the darkness at will. From his father Haine inherited the ability to shift size and his awesome mane of hair. Also the horsey ears :)
From his mother Haine got his water wielding skills. When she died she returned to the lake as water, it's because these flower grow on that lake that their light can illuminate Haine's hair.
Haine can't remember either of his parents. his mother because she died when he was very small, and his father because he bailed out soon after, abandoning him. So he doesn't understand the significance of the flowers, all he knows is that he feels less lonely when he holds them.

Poor little Haine! I can't believe his father abandoned him! :( His mother sounds really lovely though! You did an awesome job on this piece! Little Haine is so cute! :aww: I must resist the urge to pinch his fat little cheeks... :giggle: but I can still give him a hug, right?

Thank you, that lighting was surprisingly fun to do. Sure the first two tries were horrible little bitches but yeah... it was fun in the end XD

Sure you can, Haine would love a hug.
Yeah his father was a bit of an a-hole but in all fairness in his species the mares usually take care of the colts, so he was quite helpless. He did try, for about a week, but then he panicked and ran away. He hid gather food for the child and instructed/bullied some minor fae to make sure no harm comes to Haine. Still, as fathers go, he's on the fail side.
Mmm now I wanna draw a picture with haine's mom and dad... it's going to have shinies in it again :| Need to get them names too

I really love this in color! The stars and the flower's glow are beautiful! Poor Haine with his deadbeat dad... Though his heritage makes me think of a Kelpie for some reason. :o Wonderful job with the reflections!

Can we improve this picture which is the world? Can it be bettered by removing the tension and the contrast? To remove the struggle and the inevitable end? Remove the black, all of it. Leaves white, only blankness. Is it now the best it can be?
